Community Engagement

Abt Global creates opportunities for staff to get involved with local organizations as active community members.

Volunteering is an important part of Abt’s culture. Across the U.S. and around the globe, employees regularly contribute their time and effort to building partnerships with value- and mission-aligned organizations that are leading the way to equitable futures. We also provide financial support to organizations that share our vision and encourage staff to contribute their time and raise funds.

Partner Organizations

Our partner organizations tackle a variety of critical social issues, including:

Miriam’s Kitchen addresses Washington D.C.’s homelessness crisis. We partner with the organization on vital programs that meet the needs of people experiencing homelessness throughout the year. From blanket making to meal distribution, our staff has been actively involved in supporting those on the frontline of the crisis. In a recent collaboration with the organization, we captured a powerful story of courage and resilience and examined a worrying trend of rising homelessness among senior citizens.

On the Rise, a non-profit we partner with based in Cambridge, MA, focuses on “safety, community, and advocacy for homeless and formerly homeless women and transgender/non-binary individuals.” Abt staffers volunteer to support the smooth delivery of programs.

Urban Ministries of Durham “connects with the community to end homelessness and fight poverty by offering food, shelter and a future to neighbors in need.” Abt staff volunteer to help with serving and preparing meals with this impactful organization.

Pro Bono Projects

Each year, we partner with a community-based organization for an Abt-led pro bono project aligned with our mission of furthering global equity. We strive to create a sustainable product or resource that the organization can scale following the project’s completion.

Past projects include:

  • The Women’s Collective, an organization based in Washington, D.C., that provides services to women who have or are at risk of HIV/AIDS. Our team supported the creation of communication materials promoting the collective’s PrEP education and outreach programs. (FY 2024)
  • The Worcester Education Collaborative (WEC), a nonprofit focused on education equity in Worcester, MA. The team documented WEC’s complex positioning in the Worcester ecosystem and developed a set of recommendations for how WEC can measure their impact in their community. (FY 2022)
  • Our House, a nonprofit supporting people experiencing homelessness in Atlanta. The team assessed service delivery of the organization’s main programs: housing services through the Shelter, Early Childhood Education program, and Child Development Associate Certification Training, and provided an action plan for improved service delivery. (FY 2021)
  • Men Stopping Violence in Atlanta to strengthen their communication campaigns. The team conducted research to evaluate baseline knowledge, attitude, and beliefs of their target audience, inform the design and delivery of their messaging, and built the foundation for future research that can examine the impact of their communications work. (FY 2020)

Interested in applying for a pro bono project with us?

The focus and scope of our pro bono projects can take many different forms, but generally must fall under the umbrella of either research, monitoring, & evaluation or technical assistance & implementation. If you believe Abt’s pro bono services would bolster your impact, please drop us a message and share 1) your organization’s mission 2) how it serves to advance equity, and 3) a general idea of the work that you would like Abt to perform for your organization.
