As senior health informatics advisor at Abt, Miquel Sitjar provides technical leadership for comprehensive digital health solutions on projects in 30 countries. Having previously led health informatics on USAID’s Infectious Disease Detection and Surveillance project at ICF, he has crucial expertise expanding capacity and interoperable systems for real-time surveillance and pathogen identification in 22 countries. His extensive background in epidemiological and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance, as well as medical research, health policy, cybersecurity, and supply chain management in over 30 countries greatly enhances Abt’s global health security approaches.
As Abt’s senior technical advisor on digital transformation for USAID’s Local Health Systems Sustainability Program (LHSS), Sitjar has supported data integration activities in Latin America, telemedicine in Ukraine, cross-border interoperability in East Africa and HMIS, and data governance in Timor Leste. He also serves as Abt’s technical lead for USAID TB Free Uzbekistan.
Sitjar has served on the World Health Organization’s Digital Health Roster of Experts since 2019. He began his career at Johns Hopkins University where he developed a data collection and analysis platform used in 11 studies in the U.S. and globally. He later led health informatics and analytics solutions at JSI, PATH, Palladium, and ICF. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Stafford House Tutorial College.
