In mid-2012, USAID/Benin commissioned the Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) project, led by Abt Global, to conduct an assessment of the private health sector in Benin to assist USAID and other stakeholders in developing a strategy to further engage the private sector. The strategy will complement efforts within the public and private sectors that focus on family planning, maternal and child health, urban populations (particularly the urban poor), and service provider networks. This brief is a summary of the methods, findings, and key recommendations discussed in the assessment report.
