While the opioid epidemic is evolving, it’s unrelenting in its harm to individuals. Many health care systems and individual practices are improving care by adhering to state regulations, implementing guidelines and pursuing evidence-based interventions. A growing body of research on interventions suggests ways to improve opioids prescribing and reduce the risk of opioids misuse, abuse and overdose. This issue brief explains that we need more research on which strategies are most effective for implementing changes to support providers in producing better outcomes.
