Abt Global Moves to New Offices in Cambridge after 52 Years

Body

Cambridge, Mass. – After 52 years at 55 Wheeler St. in Fresh Pond, Abt Global has moved around the corner to 10 Fawcett St.

The new space, which includes state-of-the-art communications technology and more than 90 different meeting and teaming spaces, will make it easier for the company’s 330 employees located in Cambridge to connect and collaborate with their more than 3,000 colleagues in 40 countries.

“We had 52 years of amazing history in our Wheeler St. location, including one of the first corporate day care centers in New England; one of the first buildings to use solar heating; and, at one time, a swimming pool,” said Abt Global President and CEO Kathleen Flanagan.

“With this move, we are charting our future for the next 52 years and beyond,” she added. “As a global company, it is critical that our employees around the world are able to effectively connect and share knowledge and experiences to better support our clients and the mission impact we deliver.  This new space will better enable us to do that.”

The Fawcett St. office is rich with features to support the work, people and health of the company.  Designed to meet LEED specifications, the facilities reinforce Abt’s commitment to environmental sustainability, a passion of company founder Clark Abt, who constructed a solar-heated building on the Wheeler St. campus in 1976. Abt has incorporated numerous sustainability features into its space, including:

  • 100 percent of wall paint is zero VOC (volatile organic compounds) emitting, for healthy indoor air quality
  • 100 percent of carpeting is carbon neutral, low VOC emitting and made from 88 percent recycled content
  • 100 percent of workstations--using 85 percent recycled content--have daylight or direct views to the outdoors
  • All lighting uses energy efficient LED bulbs, reducing energy consumption by up to 75 percent
  • More than 1,000 air filtering live plants have been placed throughout the space

“Every detail is focused on creating a great experience for our employees,” said Flanagan. “From the design of the workstations to the expanded seating in the cafes, we wanted to open up opportunities for staff to meet their colleagues and create more innovative and effective solutions to improve the lives of people most in need worldwide.”
