Abt To Help AHRQ Promote Primary Care Research Investments, Findings

Body

Rockville, Md.  –  Primary care is the cornerstone of healthcare, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has invested significant resources in research to improve it. With committed funding, AHRQ is launching its National Center for Excellence in Primary Care Research (NCEPCR)—focused on the nation's primary care system, providing evidence, practical tools, and other resources for researchers and evaluators, clinicians and clinical teams, quality improvement experts, and healthcare decision makers to improve the quality and safety of care. Thus, the time is right to amplify NCEPCR’s role and AHRQ’s investment in primary care research.

Abt Global, along with their partners Yalda Jabbarpour, MD, Director of the Robert Graham Center; Kevin Grumbach, MD; and Visual Connections were recently awarded a new AHRQ contract to disseminate NCEPCR’s research findings and engage stakeholders to support NCEPCR’s mission.

To ensure primary care providers are able to make the most of AHRQ’s growing research and resources, Abt’s key activities will include:

  • Producing reports that summarize and synthesize AHRQ’s investments in primary care research, including dissemination and implementation (D&I) research —using human-centered design and equity lenses.
  • Increasing awareness of NCEPCR and AHRQ’s recent primary care research and implementation by:
    • Providing webinars and events informed by stakeholders’ needs.
    • Engaging stakeholders to understand their needs and enhance the dissemination of AHRQ’s primary care work.

“Abt has collaborated with AHRQ to advance primary care and D&I research for many years,” said Abt project director, Sarah Shoemaker-Hunt, Ph.D., PharmD. “We’re looking forward to lending our primary care and D&I research experience and dissemination expertise to support AHRQ in building NCEPCR’s reputation as a premier destination for primary care research.”
