Abt To Help HRSA Create a National Healthcare Workforce Institute, Strategies To Support Underserved Communities

Body

Rockville, Md.  –  To address glaring health disparities across the United States, Americans need access to high quality, affordable care, but access alone is not enough. Communities that historically have been disenfranchised from services and accessing healthcare employment also face serious health workforce recruitment and retention issues.  In order to tackle these challenges, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Services Resources Administration (HRSA) is partnering with Abt Global to create a National Health Workforce Institute.

To support the Institute’s goals, Abt will team with the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved (ACU) to:

  1. Strengthen relationships between HRSA and those addressing workforce issues in underserved communities
  2. Amplify HRSA’s impact by collaborating and connecting key partners and stakeholders across HHS and other federal agencies
  3. Elevate promising practices in workforce recruitment and retention training and technical assistance at sites working to address workforce shortages.

“Creating a National Health Workforce Institute provides a great opportunity to support HRSA’s abilities to shape its strategies based on input from people with lived experiences,” explained Ann Loeffler, Principal Associate, Health & Environment. “This work embodies the equity-grounded concept of ‘nothing about us without us,’ and we are honored to do this work in partnership with ACU, which was created by clinicians serving disenfranchised places.”
