Chief of Party, Local Health System Sustainability Project – East Africa Cross-Border Health Activity, Eastern Africa Region, Kenya

Bio

Maureen Ogada-Ndekana has more than 14 years of experience bolstering health systems in the east African region. She has expertise in public-private engagement, health markets development, social enterprise marketing, health project management, and policy advocacy for health. She has played leading roles in several U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) projects, including Local Health Systems Sustainability (LHSS) and the global flagship private sector initiative, Sustaining Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) Plus, in Tanzania. She helped accelerate progress toward Tanzania’s health goals by unlocking the potential of the private sector markets for sexual and reproductive health and HIV commodities.

As Chief of Party (COP) of the USAID LHSS – East Africa Cross-Border Health Activity, Ogada-Ndekana leads a team of project staff and consultants. She works in partnership with a wide variety of stakeholders, including USAID Washington, the USAID Kenya and East Africa Mission, bilateral missions in the region, and regional intergovernmental organizations. She also collaborates with national and local governments, private sector stakeholders, regional and local partners, and civil society organizations. Ogada-Ndekana oversees improvements in and digitization of cross-border health information systems. She manages improvements in the capacity of regional organizations to lead development and implementation of cross-border programs and policies. And she supports strengthening regional and national financing, resource mobilization, and accountability for cross-border health.

Before her current position, Ogada-Ndekana served as COP for SHOPS Plus in Tanzania. She managed the Safe Motherhood project, which helped introduce and disseminate Tanzania’s first Clean Delivery Kit brand.
