Ofonama Archibong is an energy transformation expert with 12 years of experience in infrastructure, energy, and climate in Africa. Ofonama brings a wealth of experience in project management, policy development, and business modeling to the forefront. His skill set encompasses technical advisory, stakeholder management, research, and leadership, making him a versatile asset in driving forward sustainable energy initiatives. He has worked with prestigious organizations including Amazon Energy Limited, TEAM Engineering Limited, the Nigeria Electrification Project implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency and most recently the German Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ).
As Chief of Party for HETA in Nigeria, Ofonama leads HETA’s strategy development and planning, oversees implementation progress, and coordinates with stakeholders for health facility electrification and digital connectivity that will enhance the service capabilities of health facilities while mitigating costs and environmental footprint. He actively engages with USAID representatives, serves as the face of HETA in Nigeria, and cultivates strong ties with governmental bodies, private enterprises, and donors. He also supports HETA teams in conducting assessments, designing interventions, and executing plans in adherence to USAID and Abt policy and guidance. He takes charge of various tasks, including report preparation, technical material review, obstacle identification, and staff and partner supervision. Additionally, Ofonama fosters partnerships with other implementing entities.
Previously, as technical advisor for the International Hydrogen Ramp-up Program (H2Uppp) implemented by GIZ, Ofonama spearheaded the implementation of the Nigeria component of the program, working with the private sector to support the development of the local market for green hydrogen and its derivatives. He also provided high-level policy advisory, technical implementation, and project support for the World Bank and Africa Development Bank-funded Nigeria Electrification Project. As a consultant, he developed mini-grid business models and supported a project portfolio of over $100 million in solar photovoltaics transactions. At TEAM Engineering, he led engineering teams in the implementation of national railway projects.
