Matthew Eby has over 20 years of leadership experience in supporting life science research and consulting for military, federal public health, and international agencies. His diverse career spans basic and applied research on environmental bioremediation, designing nanomaterials to combat antimicrobial resistance, and protecting our nation against bioterrorism. He also led federal and international agencies in modernizing public health systems and pandemic response efforts. Clients have included the Air Force, Navy, Army, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration, and National Institutes of Health. He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications with 1000+ citations. He also is an active supporter of local community initiatives that tackle affordable housing, food insecurity, and systemic poverty.
As vice president of the U.S. Domestic Public Health Portfolio, Eby is responsible for the growth and management of Abt’s support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. He also oversees business expansion in other areas of the Department of Health and Human Services, establishes strategic partnerships, and finds innovative, cost-effective solutions after assessing clients’ complex needs.
Eby came to Abt from Booz Allen Hamilton, where he supported improving and modernizing comprehensive, interconnected systems to protect the U.S. against bioterrorism. He also supported next generation assay development and enterprise laboratory data management. He began his post-doctorate career by supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in assessing bioremediation of nitrotoluenes (e.g., TNT explosives) at contaminated sites. He continued to support AFRL in designing antimicrobial biomimetic nanomaterials to combat multi-resistant infectious diseases and developed microbial and enzymatic fuel cells for clean energy.
